A journey that will inspire you to step out of your comfort zone
ZAMBEZI – The first solo journey down Africa’s mighty River
In 2002 Mike Boon decided to embark on a solo kayak journey that started at the source of the Zambezi in Northwest Zambia. Three thousand kilometres and 99 days later he paddled into the sea at Chinde in Mozambique.
This riveting account of his experience on the river, both an action-filled adventure and a journey of the soul was published from the log book he kept during the trip. The risks were high and Mike braved war zones, bandits, wild animals, crocodile-infested waters and areas so remote that very little of the river had even been chartered. Mike’s journey was a process of reconciliation with himself, his continent and his world.
“I understand from what I am and where my life has taken me, that you deeply appreciate life the closer you go to death; the more you realise how incredibly magnificent life is, and I think that is what drives me to do things like this”
